We are delighted to announce that Dove Cafe, our city centre community cafe, has opened a second day! The cafe will now be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10.30 am to 2 pm. From 10.30 am to 12 noon we serve free drinks and biscuits, then from 12 noon to 1.45 pm we serve light lunches and drinks at very affordable prices. On Tuesdays, our speciality is jacket potatoes which bake beautifully on our ovens. On Thursdays, it is pasties and vegetarian pies sourced locally from Exeter Farmers' Market. The cafe is a great place to meet friends or come on your own. We always have welcomers or chaplains present who will say hello and chat with you if you wish. We seek to make Dove Cafe friendly and welcoming - a safe place where people can relax and feel secure and at home. Dove Cafe originally opened more than three years ago to provide an affordable community cafe for local people and users of the Palace Gate Centre. To run the cafe we have a partnership with Langdon Hospital at Dawlish which helps men recover from mental illness. Men from the hospital work in our kitchen on placement during the last stages of their time in hospital. They come to Dove Cafe to learn new skills, gain confidence back in the community and have some work experience. South St Baptist Church is always open during Dove Cafe and people are welcome to visit it or use the space to sit quietly and reflect or pray. Once a week we will have a short lunchtime service either on Tuesday or Thursday to which all are welcome. Sometimes at these, there is the chance to pray for others through the lighting candles. You can get to Dove Cafe on both Tuesday and Thursday by the Palace Gate Centre entrance or through South Street Baptist Church. It happens in our Lower Hall, a lovely big bright space with a commercial kitchen.
