south street baptist church

Baptists have been worshipping on their South Street site since 1725. Today, we still meet to put Jesus at the centre of our lives and learn what it is to follow him today.

We meet every Sunday at 11 am for a service which seeks to be welcoming and accessible. The service is quite structured and seeks to be friendly and relevant. We use traditional hymns and also some newer hymns and songs. There will be readings from the Bible and one of our ministers or a visiting preacher will speak on a theme for about fifteen minutes. In our preaching we aim to learn more about the God revealed in Jesus and how we follow him in today’s world.

We project hymn words and liturgy on to our TV screens and encourage those preaching to use images or video to help us think about their message.

We celebrate Holy Communion on the first Sunday of the month and invite all who seek to follow Jesus to share bread and wine with us. We always use non-alcoholic grape juice for communion. Families are very welcome and we can provide a creche or children’s activities. Services will finish by 12.15 pm and we hope people will stay to chat over tea and coffee afterwards.

All are welcome to come along to our services.

Visit the church’s own website to learn more about us.
